Gift Cards are designed and the issuing system configured to load the card with a dollar value once which is then spent down by the recipient.

Stored Value cards are reloadable plastic cards. That is, a merchant can issue a stored value card loaded with a $ value - usually nominated by the Customer - and it is then used at their convenience. The Customer can spend the money stored in any denominations as necessary and then top it up again when more funds are needed. Stored value cards provide retailers with a multitude of marketing opportunities and they can use stored value cards to switch the clients from money in their bank accounts to money on deposit with the retailer.

The fees charged by Dynamic Rewards for processing of card transactions, gift cards, stored value cards and loyalty cards is less than those charged by banks for EFTPOS. The benefits are patently obvious and have numerous benefits for the retailer as well as being extremely convenient for the Customer.

The retailer gets full cash value when the card is loaded - say, $100 - and this money then sits in the retailers bank account until the client to use the funds stored on the card.

The Customer has an incentive to register the card online and this contributes to creating a database for the retailer. A further benefit for the Customer is that, if the registered card is lost, the retailer can re-issue the card by simply checking the database.

As a card with value, the Customer is going to keep it in the wallet or purse thus creating repeat marketing impressions every time the Customer opens their wallet or purse.

Stored value card can also be used across multiple outlets within the same brand such as McDonalds or Subway. In these cases the merchants are able to track Customers time or purchase, store of purchase, products purchased, promotional items chosen, average value and more to ensure that their marketing strategies are monitoring Customer habits and patterns.

Starbucks - In the 6 months to March 31st 2008 , over 33,440,000 Starbucks cards we’re activated around the world for a total preloaded value of $543,200,000 US dollars

Subway NZ have issued over 840,000 cards as at March 31st 2008 , in place of the old business card style subway card. If all cards we’re charged with at least $20 NZD that would equate to $16,800,000
